Acne Myths

Time to dispel a few acne myths and focus on some facts.

What you eat doesn’t cause acne. Eating chocolate and greasy food likes fries and pizza doesn’t necessarily give you spots. If it’s all you eat, it’s the fact your body is not getting all the nutrients it needs to stay healthy that’s causing spots. Eating a balanced healthy diet should cause no problems. If you notice when you eat a certain food, you get acne, it’s likely you have an allergy and it would be wise to avoid this food as much as possible.

Another common myth is that acne breakouts are caused by not washing your face enough. Of course everyone should wash their face everyday but over washing your face can aggravate acne. Some cosmetics could initiate a breakout, but if a soap or certain make-up causes you to have more pimples, it is worth it to recify that immediately. It could still be a good idea to consider using hypoallergenic products.

Lastly, there is an acne myth that daily stress causes acne. Common stress in not a major factor causing acne, however some anti-stress prescriptions have acne listed as a potential side effect. If you are using a product that you think may be causing acne then it is best to consult your doctor or research this.
