Acne is the commonest of skin conditions treated by doctors. It is likely to affect us to some some extent, whether it’s just a couple of spots or more serious . In simple terms, there are different types of acne: pus filled red bump, blackheads and whiteheads.
Blackheads are called open comedones and have follicles with a wider opening then normal. These fill with plugs of oil and dead skin cells that undergo a chemical reaction of oxidization making their appearance black.
Whiteheads are closed comedones that are filled with the same debris as blackheads but have a microscopic opening on the skin’s surface and so oxidization does not take place and the color remains white.
Good acne treatment has to be consistent as an overnight cure has yet to be found. A good daily skin care routine can be fundamental to getting clear skin again.
Over the counter treatments can help mild to moderate cases of blackheads and whiteheads. If these products don’t appear to work after a couple of months or the acne is quite severe, then a doctor will be able to prescribe a stronger antibiotics.
