Skin exfoliation is a natural occurrence when dead skin cells fall and new skin cells are revealed.
We tend to neglect skin exfoliation. Oily skin needs a helping hand because dead skin cells tend to stay on the face due to the sticky properties of oil. On dry skin, when dead skin accumulates, the skin appears dull as well as prevents natural skin exfoliation and needs moisture. As we age, the skin’s natural exfoliation process slows down .
All these problems can be solved by manual skin exfoliation. Removing dead skin cells from your your face will not only give you a healthy glow, but over time will help your skin absorb more moisture, reduce acne and fine lines.
You can use mildly abrasive products like silk mitts, wash clothes, an exfoliating mask or scrub. A word to the wise, choose your exfoliation method carefully as anything too abrasive can irritate your skin even further.
One theory is that it is not bacteria thats is responsible for causing acne. The real cause is toxins causing pimples.
Unfortunately in today’s environment and climate (unless you are luckily enough to live in the middle of nowhere and grow your own food) it is very difficult to block toxins causing pimples.
Some acidic foods, processed foods, chemically enhanced foods or food with additives can cause imbalances in your body. Even water, air pollution or stress can create these toxins that can invade your body.
If you have too many toxins floating around your body, you may experience one of more of the following symptoms: recurring headaches, low energy, frequent constipation, irritability or acne.
Acne happens when your body cannot remove enough toxins through your kidneys and bowels (which are your first line of defense) and then the second line of defense is your liver . If this is not adequate, toxins will be released through your skin.
It could be said that acne is a sign that the liver is growing weaker in its detoxification abilities . This makes it worthwile to see what toxins are in your environment.
About 25% of men and 50% of women out of their teens will be affected by acne at some point in their lives.
Acne problems affect millions of adults in their 20s, 30s and even older, however some people are more prone to the condition then others. Adult acne problems can be triggered by several factors like use of drugs or medication, vitamin deficiency, hormonal changes, pregnancy, exposure to chemicals or toxins and severe stress. The good news is acne caused by these factors are usually short-lived.
Adult acne is an overproduction of sebum by the sebaceous gland just under the skin (brought on by any one of the triggers above). The propionibacterium acnes bacteria, that lives in the skin on everyone, feeds on the excess sebum and this can cause irritation, inflammation and ultimately acne.
Controlling and managing adult acne problems could mean making more of an effort in hygiene maintenance and changes to medication, lifestyle or diet.
If as an adult, you are affected by just a spot or two then an over the counter medicine should suffice, if the condition is more severe then a trip to the doctor or dermatologist is advised as they will diagnose the condition and suggest the best course of action.
