Dermabrasion Treatments involve something similar to a sand paper exfoliation with a specialized rotary machine.
It involves the top layers of your skin being scraped of mechanically, which reveals fresh clear skin with scarring and irregularities removed.
The procedure varies in cost and lasts from a few minutes until an hour. Usually a local anesthetic is applied to numb the pain.
Risks or complications that may occur after dermabrasion treatments include temporary burning, redness, itchiness and swelling. Some people might experience a lightening of skin, which can be more sensitive to the sun.
Also bear in mind that the skin reshaping effects of dermabrasion treatments are permanent and there is a chance of abnormal skin color changes.
The usual recovery time of this procedure is 2 weeks although the redness could take up to 2 months to subside.
Surgery that is performed for cosmetic reasons are usually not covered by health insurance but if it is a medical necessity (a cure for depression?) it would be worth consulting with your doctor and health insurance provider.
