Scientists have finally gotten around to proving there is such a thing as menstrual cycle pimples. This is a fact that women have known for many a year.
Their new research shows that acne can follow the same 28 day period as the menstrual cycle with flare ups just before bleeding commences.
They put down the menstrual cycle pimples to hormonal changes as that increases oil production, size of pores and water retention.
The studies showed that pore sizes changed throughout the menstrual cycle and they are at their smallest on days 15 ? 20 and the smaller the pores, the greater chance of clogging.
Water retention can also cause pores to get smaller, so a cure for menstrual cycle pimples could be as simple as a diuretic, which soaks up excess water from skin and tissues.
Lastly and surprisingly they found that the use of birth control pills seemed not to make any difference to breakouts of acne.
